VoIP Your Life is one of the newest small business entrants in to the crowded VoIP market. They are not as big as some of the older, established players and as a result do not outsource too many functions, having a more competent control over their service. It’s a good system with even greater customer support, but not the best out there.
Buying and Setting Up
There is a one time setup fee of $19.95 and shipping fee of $5.95. Post payment, the welcome kit with instructions and adapter reaches the user within 7 working days. Installation is very simple and is actually plug and play into regular internet modem and phone line.
Product Features
This is a fairly basic service, with basic features.
- Anonymous Call Rejection
- Call Filter: Redirect pre-specified numbers to other phone numbers.
- Call Forwarding: to alternate number in USA or Canada. Charged at 2.4 cents per minute for the Basic Plan, but free for all other plans.
- Call Waiting
- Caller Name and Number Identification
- Do Not Disturb: status routs call to voicemail when you are unavailable for taking calls.
- Speed Dial: for up to 10 numbers
- Voicemail: notification or .wav audio attachment by email.
- 3-Way Conference Calling
- Emergency 911 Calling Service (chargeable)
- Number Portability: Customer care can tell you if your specific number can be ported before
signing up.
- Toll free number: $6 to own a number and 4.5 to 6 cents per minute of use.
- International virtual number: allows the ability to own a local number many cities around the world at $14.95 per month. There is also a one time $19.99 service set up fee.

Call Quality
VoIP Your Life has a regular consistent phone quality. While this is great for calling USA and Canada, it is slightly less clearer on international calls, but still ok for the cheap price they offer. It works better on high speed cable than on DSL and when it is given priority in the network hierarchy so that downloads or uploads to not interfere with its performance. But a big problem with this service is the 18 – 20 second delay after dialing out and before the other end rings. For some this is ok, but most would find this wait unacceptable.
Call Plans
Definitely not the cheapest service around, but still suits customers who are willing to pay the extra dollars for superior customer service. Good thing is that there are no hidden charges, no cancellation fees and no binding contracts. Bad thing is that they still haven’t started offering a high saving annual plan! While they have no money back guarantee option, as a goodwill gesture they tend to refund users who cannot get the phone line working at all. VoIP Your Life Plans include:
Basic Monthly Plan: Receive unlimited incoming calls for free. Outgoing calls charged at 2.4 cents per minute.
Unlimited Monthly Plan: Unlimited outbound calls to USA and Canada at $23.97 per month.
Unlimited Global Plan: This is a good deal with unlimited calling to USA, Canada and 30 other countries at $29.97 per month.
Business Plan: Almost the same as the home user palns, except that outbound calls are not unlimited, but 1500 allotted minutes. Extra 2.5 cent per minute chargeable thereafter.
Customer Service
VoIP really offers excellent in spite of their small sized business character. Or maybe that’s the reason they have got it right. Customer service is based out of USA and hence easy to understand. Users are usually connected directly to a live person without being put through touch tone voice options. Technical support staff is super efficient and can provide resolutions within minutes. However the VoIP Your Life website is very messy and not at all easy to navigate. Account panels are also far less sophisticated than what other providers offer.
VoIP Your Life is actually a fairly good basic program, despite the rather cheesy name! It’s not for those seeking a plethora of features. But if you hate having to deal with outsourced customer service with one hour wait times, this could be for you.
